**Foldable iPhone’s Unique Display Dimensions Revealed Again**
In contrast to past years, there seems to be agreement among leakers and analysts that Apple is set to introduce a foldable iPhone in 2026. The device is expected to be part of the iPhone 18 series, anticipated to be revealed in September 2026. Although an official title for this inaugural foldable iPhone is yet to be disclosed, it has been referred to as the iPhone Fold and iPhone 18 Fold.
These names stem from speculation indicating that Apple will unveil a foldable iPhone akin to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold. These devices are foldable and close like a book, featuring the foldable display on the interior. An external screen occupies one of the two rear panels of the gadget, facilitating usage while folded.
The iPhone 18 Fold is anticipated to be the first, or among the initial, foldables presenting a minimal crease at the center of the display. Reports suggest that Apple has invested in higher-quality manufacturing methods that would enable Samsung Display to supply creaseless foldable screens to Apple.
This foldable iPhone will also stand out as one of the few in its category to offer an entirely distinct experience. This is suggested by the projected screen sizes that have been circulating for some time. A new report by research organization TrendForce reaffirms the same display sizes as prior leaks. The foldable iPhone is expected to sport a 7.8-inch foldable screen alongside a 5.5-inch external display.
**What’s peculiar about the iPhone 18 Fold’s display dimensions?**
According to TrendForce’s analysis of the foldable market, global sales of foldables are poised to grow “at a steady pace” this year. “Primary obstacles include ongoing concerns over crease visibility, durability, and pricing.”
The organization posits that the introduction of Apple’s foldable iPhone could alter market dynamics in the coming year. It is in this light that the research firm outlines the display sizes of the foldable iPhone. “If confirmed, Apple’s entrance is predicted to greatly enhance consumer interest and acceptance of foldables, particularly among premium users,” the report emphasizes.
While TrendForce does not specify the exact dimensions of the foldable iPhone, these display figures are not standard for Fold-type devices. For instance, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 features an 8-inch foldable screen and a 6.5-inch cover display, which is marginally larger than the Z Fold 6’s 7.6-inch and 6.3-inch displays. The Z Fold 7 screens nearly align with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold screens: an 8-inch foldable display and a 6.3-inch cover screen.
At first glance, the iPhone 18 Fold’s 7.8-inch and 5.5-inch screens seem unusual for a Fold-style handset. These dimensions imply the device might not share the same aspect ratio as its rivals.
**Apple’s foldable iPhone will be more compact**
What’s intriguing about these anticipated dimensions for the foldable iPhone is their consistency over several months. TrendForce is not the first market analysis firm to highlight them. Some of these reports indicated that Apple’s foldable, while categorized as a Fold device when opened, will be more compact.
The iPhone Fold will not reach the same height as the Galaxy Z Fold and Pixel Fold models. However, when unfolded, the device should still provide a tablet-like experience. That 7.8-inch display will resemble the rectangular iPad mini more than the almost square form of Samsung’s unfolded Z Fold devices.
There is industry precedence for this design approach. Oppo’s Find N showcases a 7.1-inch foldable display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. Huawei’s Pura X, launched in China earlier this year, may offer the best comparison. The Pura X includes a 3.5-inch cover screen and a 6.3-inch foldable display. The phone operates like a clamshell when closed and resembles a small tablet when opened.
Apple’s iPhone Fold device is anticipated to deliver experiences more akin to the Find N and Pura X than the conventional Fold-type phones available in stores as of this writing. While it’s speculative, a different aspect ratio appears to be the only plausible explanation. The foldable iPhone’s design is likely to leak in the upcoming months, providing a clearer perspective on what type of foldable iPhone Apple aims to produce.
